While Becky Robbins (beckyrobbins.com) spent many years supporting her former husband, Tony Robbins, in building his motivational speaking empire, the La Jolla local has found new joy in crafting oil paintings depicting her love of the earth and humanity. Here, the visionary paints the next chapter of her vibrant life.
What sparked your passion for art? With anything new there is optimism and curiosity. I tried several genres at about the same time: piano, learning Spanish, gardening and art, but art was the one that captivated me. Painting has become a soul expression. People began asking to buy my work, so it became natural to offer it publicly.
What inspires you? My art is inspired in many ways—by music, my travel to other cultures, nature under the sea, early explorers, science and by my research into related topics. I’m also inspired by other artists, photographers and writers. My antennae are always scanning.
Tell us about your most recent collection. This collection, Yugen, is a Japanese concept: ‘an awareness of the universe that triggers emotional responses too deep and powerful for words.’ The power of the arts and science, and the benefit of living among the beauty, are all infused in the works.
