THE PARTY Nearly 1,000 partygoers joined together with honorary chairs Audrey S. Geisel and Letitia H. Swortwood for the 33rd annual Rendezvous In The Zoo black-tie fundraising gala. Held at the San Diego Zoo, the fete raised over $1.5 million in support of the state-of-the-art Children’s Zoo, which will debut in 2019. THE SCENE Prior to sitting down for dinner, VIPs like Joye Blount and Patti Roscoe mingled among adorable 8-foot-tall flamingo puppets and enjoyed Champagne and light hors d’oeuvres. Following cocktails, the zoo’s band, The Chameleons, invited guests to proceed to a delicious dinner of a leek and spinach tart; herb-and-garlic crusted beef tenderloin; prosciutto-wrapped prawns; and a passion-fruit meringue tart. THE HIGHLIGHTS “It’s critical that we infuse future generations with the passion for wildlife and the commitment to saving species,” said event co-chair Patti Roscoe. “Investing in the Children’s Zoo is investing in our children—and our future.” Talk about making a roar! –Meg McGuire; photos by Melissa Jacobs
