The show will present cooking challenges ranging from boardwalk bake sales to yacht meals. Renowned Los Angeles restaurateur chef Antonia Lofaso will host the competition, challenging the cooks to discover who can create the best summer food.
Two teams, each representing their respective coastlines, will battle it out via the culinary arts. Mouzakes, known for heightening the success of Mission Valley’s farm-fresh, high-profile eatery, ARLO, will be one of five team members on the West Coast team.
Brooke Williamson, a Los Angeles native, will lead the West Coast team, while Boston-based chef Tiffani Faison, will lead the East Coast team. Both chefs will mentor their proteges as they attempt to win the competition.
Only one of the ten contestants will take home the grand prize, which is an all-inclusive beachside vacation. The winner will be selected at the end of the six-week series and will be crowned the “Best of the Beach.”
Mouzakes’s appearances on Beachside Brawl will be his first on reality television, but certainly not his first time in a kitchen.
Mouzakes discovered his passion for the culinary arts when he was only thirteen years old. After attending vocational school, he studied with the culinary college at Johnson and Wales University, one of the leading culinary programs in the US.
Before landing the gig at ARLO, Mouzakes was a chef at the JW Marriott in downtown Houston. His career move to ARLO, found in the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, brings new innovation with it, including a transition to seasonal menus, experimentation with vegetarian dishes, and a mission to use a variety of scratch-made, local ingredients in daily dishes.
ARLO is a combination of fine cuisine and fun beach dining, bringing fresh flavors to a fun environment. The restaurant is underscored by a sweeping outdoor patio and a giant outdoor fireplace, as well as swaying palm trees surrounding the area.
At ARLO, you can choose from local craft beer, an extensive selection of wines, and creative cocktails. Mouzakes, who aspires to bring a casual, interactive atmosphere to the fine dining experience, serves from a continually-updated menu of eclectic dishes, including seafoods, local and regional dishes, and shareable platters.
