Band Aid

| September 29, 2014 | Parties

The Party
The invite’s only reference to a dress code was a pointed note to the ladies: “No heels.” So the black-leather-clad crowd of nearly 500 who gathered at the cliffside La Jolla estate of Lisa and Steve Altman must have taken common inspiration from the evening’s entertainment. Legendary rockers Foreigner didn’t disappoint, taking to the backyard stage to belt out stadium anthems like “Hot Blooded” and “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” helping to raise $850,000 for the Pediatric Diabetes Research Center at UC San Diego.

The People
After a meet-and-greet with the band, a who’s who of social-set luminaries feasted on bites from top eateries like Carnitas’ Snack Shack, Green Acre, Cafe Japengo, Puesto and Rancho Valencia. Charger players Manti Te’o, Jake Byrne and Jerry Attaochu were out to show their support, applauding when Steve Altman read a letter from his daughter, Lindsay, about her own struggles with Type 1 diabetes.

Best in Show
In what’s become an annual tradition at the high-ticket fundraiser, event chairs Lisa Altman, Stacey Valencia and Dana Kiffmann handed out Jell-O shots as the band began to wail. This year’s flavor? Grape. Rock on! -Photography by Amy Connor
