THE PARTY A Rockin’ Role Models theme amped up the 55th annual dinner for Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, raising a blockbuster $883,000 for its one-to-one mentoring programs, held at Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. THE SCENE An extravagant seafood cocktail party set the scene for the competitive silent auction. During the event, a 10-item live auction featured such gets as a custom Subaru—donated by Frank Subaru. The program’s 2017 Person of the Year Bill Brennan took to the stage and Paul Hering was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award. THE HIGHLIGHTS A fabulous gourmet surf-and-turf dinner was served as sportscaster Dick Enberg emceed the spirited evening, attended by more than 650 business and community leaders, with title sponsors Frank Subaru and Marsh & McLennan Agency. During dinner, guests took in performances by School of Rock and performance painter Stephen Fishwick. Guests got into the spirit of the night after dinner, enjoying cigars and drinks late into the evening to live music by Ryan Hiller on the gorgeous Asteria Terrace. -Andrea Bennett
