The Party
Dressed to the nines and literally hungry for the most hotly anticipated restaurant opening of the year, the social set thronged Juniper & Ivy when the new Little Italy resto opened its doors for a tasting and sneak peek.

The Scene
The multimillion-dollar renovation of the Helix Wholesale building on Kettner had already captured foodies’ imaginations, and the big reveal didn’t disappoint. Sleek and sexy, the space had guests oohing and ahing over details like the Kim MacConnel artwork (La Jolla’s Quint Gallery is curating the rotating selection of hangings) and the sparkling open kitchen, which issued bites like carne cruda asada and heritage pork carnitas with seaweed salsa vinaigrette. With top mixologist Jen Queen leading the crew at the resto’s hickory-topped bar, the libations flowed liberally, setting the stage for what’s sure to be a hot nightlife scene.

The Highlights
His signature spiky coif holding up under pressure, Top Chef Blais worked both the kitchen and the dining room, taking VIPs (including many of S.D.’s top toques playing hooky from their own kitchens for the night) through the gleaming state-of-the-art kitchen and posing for photos with his groupies... er, fans. –Photography by Tim King
