Bright Idea
Scripps’ 87th Candlelight Ball ignited a flurry of philanthropy and fun.
THE PARTY
In celebration of surgical excellence at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, the facility held its highly anticipated 87th annual Candlelight Ball at the luxurious Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Guests were greeted by an impressive ice sculpture and flowing bubbly during cocktail hour before they moved on to a gourmet dinner and dancing.
THE SCENE
After dining on seared miso diver scallops, roasted beef tenderloin and black forest dark chocolate parfait, partygoers, including Nurse of the Year Jeremiah Darnell and wife Caitlin, hit the dance floor as local band The Mighty Untouchables threw the fete into full gear with a cover of “Unchained Melody.”
THE HIGHLIGHTS
Punctuating its stance as one of the city’s top end-of-year gatherings, Scripps transformed the Fairmont into a wintery wonderland with projectors displaying falling snow on the ballroom’s walls. The best gift of all? More than $275,000 was raised by the evening’s conclusion, funding world-class care at Scripps Memorial Hospital. ‒Allison Mitchell
