Change Artists

| December 26, 2013 | Parties

Up on the rooftop pool deck at downtown’s Hotel Palomar, the cafe lights strung by 360 Degrees Lighting glittered as the crowd played paparazzi, chronicling an evening that was all about harnessing the power of social media and crowning the ultimate game changer.
Celeb chef and restaurateur Brian Malarkey squired his mother, Lesley Day, around the party. At night’s end, he presented her with his $10,000 check, the grand prize in Verizon’s charity-driven Game Changer contest. It was a sweet payday for Chimps Inc., Day’s Oregon sanctuary for captive chimpanzees. Malarkey’s vanquished competitors were hardly monkeying around, though. Tenley Molzahn (of The Bachelor fame), Jamie Lynn Sigler (founder of J Public Relations) and former Charger Shawne Merriman each earned $4,000 for their respective charities.
Partygoers grazed on housemade sopes, pot roast and wild salmon, and were wowed by a lavish spread of mini desserts, while fans of the competitors’ BlackBerry smartphones could give the Q10 and Z10 models a spin. So, did the evening spawn a few new CrackBerry addicts? #youbetcha. –Photography by J. Dixx Photography
