THE PARTY The evening was aglow with stars and LED lighting for opening night of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, a world-premiere musical featuring a story by The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Playhouse Director Emeritus Des McAnuff (of Jersey Boys and Jesus Christ Superstar cred). Guests enjoyed a preshow reception with a talk from Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, Des McAnuff and choreographer Bradley Rapier. THE SCENE The fantastical robot world (made up of a 14-foot robot puppet and dancers in glowing LED costumes) coupled with the psychedelic score made for the Playhouse’s most innovative production to date. As guests exited the Mandell Weiss Theatre, they were greeted by an illuminated path of balloons flashing in the night. THE HIGHLIGHTS A DJ and a virtual graffiti photo wall kept the fun going at the after-party. Buzz abounded for the upcoming season, featuring contemporary hit play Tribes and The Kennedy Center-bound musical Side Show. Photography by Jason Farr
