La Jolla Music Society rounds up San Diego’s finest for its annual summer gala.
THE PARTY Musicophiles came together with the city’s philanthropic set to laud the La Jolla Music Society’s annual summer chamber music festival at the SummerFest 2016: 30th Anniversary Gala. Held at Rancho del Arte, the home of Iris and Matthew Strauss, the fete raised over $300,000 in support of LJMS’ artistic and education programs.
THE SCENE More than 150 guests, including Jeanne Jones and gala chair Sue Wagener, were treated to a cocktail hour of Champagne, alongside caviar and a seafood bar from Pamplemousse Grill’s chef, Jeffrey Strauss. For supper, the chef prepared a delicious meal featuring an arugula salad with prosciutto, melon, goat cheese and pine nuts, and a filet of beef with lobster pearls, plus sea-salted chocolate caramels for dessert.
THE HIGHLIGHTS In addition to a private concert from acclaimed festival artists like the Escher String Quartet and SummerFest Music Director Cho-Liang Lin, partygoers were treated to a tour of the Strauss’ private art collection with MCASD CEO Kathryn Kanjo and Matthew himself.
