THE PARTY Philanthropists and military heros came together at the iconic Hotel del Coronado for USO San Diego’s 75th Anniversary Stars and Stripes Gala: It Takes a City to Support our Military. The event raised $750,000 to keep S.D.’s Armed Forces connected with their home and family during active service. THE SCENE The city’s charitable superstars came out in droves, including Joye Blount, Jessie J. Knight Jr., Reena and Sam Horowitz, and Hélène and George Gould. San Diego’s First Family also attended, as Mayor Kevin Faulconer was one of the evening’s honorees. THE HIGHLIGHTS The organization presented the inaugural USO San Diego’s Patriots Award, a new accolade created to recognize a local civilian who has shown patriotism, to Presenting Title Sponsor Papa Doug Manchester. Meanwhile, MusiCorps—the Wounded Warriors group and finalists of CNN’s 2014 Heroes Award—kept the house rockin’, and former Navy SEAL Clint Bruce moved the crowd during his keynote speech.
