Flower Power!

| May 29, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY An evening that took revelers deep into the wee hours kicked off with a twilight opening celebration in the Sculpture Court. An indoor/outdoor lounge scene filled the air with music as guests ambled back and forth between the party and the museum, where more than 100 floral interpretations of the museum’s collection were displayed. After hours, sipping Patrón tequila cocktails and hobnobbing over pulsing beats from L.A. DJ The Flashdance, late-night guests danced under the flower-dripping rotunda at Flowers After Hours. THE SCENE Jewel-bright cocktail frocks gave the evening’s lush florals a run for their money as guests roamed from gallery to gallery. A spread of small bites from some of S.D.’s favorite eateries, including Café Chloe, Prepkitchen and Nobu, kept the courtyard buzzing. Indoors, the museum’s hive of activity momentarily quieted for a live electric violin performance on the rotunda staircase. THE HIGHLIGHT Suspended from the rotunda, acclaimed floral designer Bella Meyer’s graceful angel, rendered in moss and flowers, called to mind the work of her grandfather, the painter Marc Chagall.
