THE PARTY
A black-tie gala christened the sparkling new J. Craig Venter Institute, a zero-carbon, net-zero-energy genomics lab.
THE PLAYERS
Former Vice President Al Gore was the headliner for the evening. Also on hand was Pradeep Khosla, the chancellor of UC San Diego, where Venter attended and dreamed of being a scientist.
