THE PARTY
Nearly 600 guests came out to the Hilton Bayfront for the Globe Guilders’ Celebrating Couture 2015. This year, the be-seen luncheon and fashion show raised more than $100,000 for The Old Globe’s artistic, education and community programs.
THE PEOPLE
Notable Globe supporters in attendance included Globe Board chair Elaine Darwin, Globe Guilders President Margi Sargis, Sheryl White, Karen Cohn, Joan Jacobs, Iris Strauss, and Globe Board members Valerie Cooper and Jo Ann Kilty—all longtime fans of Naeem Khan’s designs since his inaugural Celebrating Couture fashion show seven years ago. Due to a family emergency, the A-list designer was unable to attend, but the show had to go on, and go on it did, with swoonworthy beaded and chiffon gowns that brought collective sighs.
BEST IN SHOW
Before the fashion show, Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Managing Director Michael G. Murphy recognized the importance of the support of the Globe Guilders, the charitable group established 60 years ago. A proclamation was also presented from the California State Assembly, recognizing the Guilders for their contribution to enriching the arts and culture scene in San Diego. Bravo. Edelstein, who decamped from NYC, continues to amp up the Globe’s programming. This summer’s lineup sizzles with Twelfth Night, Kiss Me Kate and The Comedy of Errors. -Photos by Tim Hardy
