Having a Blast!

| April 24, 2012 | Parties

THE PARTY The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Thursday Night Thing (TNT) is S.D.’s main arty party and premiere for new exhibits. This night scored the trifecta: Isaac Julien’s Ten Thousand Waves, Ai Weiwei’s Zodiac Heads/Circle of Animals: Gold and Iconic: Gifts from the
Kondon-Giesberger Collection. THE SCENE The evening started with packed gallery tours, but performances by The Howls and dirty-blues duo Little Hurricane (fresh from SXSW) turned things up a notch. The buzzing crowd of art enthusiasts sipped exhibit-inspired concoctions like the Ten Thousand Ginger Waves. THE HIGHLIGHTS TNT-goers got in on the art, posing for pictures in front of a green screen—a nod to Isaac Julien’s work with its green screens and video installation. NEXT UP Save the date of May 30 for MCASD’s biennial art auction, complete with a Christie’s auctioneer at the helm. Raise your (Ryan McGinness-designed) paddles! Photography by Keshia Clark
