Hey Sexy!

THE PARTY More than 200 art lovers came to La Jolla’s Quint gallery for the opening of Jean Lowe’s Hey Sexy exhibit. THE HIGHLIGHTS Lowe, whose work was recently acquired for MCASD’s permanent collection, did not disappoint with her cheeky riffs on consumerism. The gallery, set up like a discount store, showcased Lowe’s witty wares, including papier-mâché 12 packs of beer and cardboard “radios” replete with iPod stations and Lowe’s hand-picked playlist. (This editor fell hard for her ceramic sculpture of a Dunkin’ Donuts cup.) THE SCENE La Jolla continues to thrive as an art destination, thanks to Quint and a bevy of other galleries hosting vibrant openings. NEXT UP Quint, which made its name with on-the-verge artists, is unveiling Young Guns this month. The exhibition will focus on three S.D. artists as well as others from San Francisco, Santa Fe and NYC. Works will include photography, sculpture, drawing, collage, painting and conceptual art. Expect the unexpected. Photography by Tim Hardy; shotbyhardy.com
