THE PARTY More than 4,500 spectators came out for San Diego Polo Club’s Opening Day—a special one, as it marked the 110th anniversary of the sport in our great city. Held at the fields in Rancho Santa Fe, the competitive event featured two spirited matches: Le Mirage vs. Pheasant Hollow and J. Craig Venter Institute vs. BMW Encinitas. The winners? Le Mirage took it home with a 7-5 victory, and BMW Encinitas won at the very last second during a tense overtime period. THE SCENE Guests including Maria Assaraf and JR Robles socialized in the exclusive Player’s Lounge, which was styled in gold and silver metallics by Modern Luxury. In addition to taking in the games, partygoers noshed on light bites like a roasted Moroccan spiced carrot salad, watermelon and feta skewers, and mini turkey sandwiches—all by Wild Thyme Catering. THE HIGHLIGHTS While the polo players took a much-needed rest during halftime, S.D.’s finest rushed to the field for the divot stomp—a Champagne-filled tradition that always proves to be the most fun part of the day! –Photos by Tim Hardy
