Jailhouse Rocks

| December 26, 2013 | Parties

Years in the planning and sporting a $40 million renovation price tag, The Headquarters at Seaport District hosted a VIP reception the night before its grand opening.
Early arrivals were surprised to find a police battalion marshaling the crowd outside the pink-stuccoed, Spanish-style charmer. Was a riot already breaking out over Pizzeria Mozza reservations? Nope. The uniformed set were just part of an homage to The Headquarters’ roots as downtown’s original police HQ, constructed in 1939. After the ribbon-cutting, bartenders dressed in cheeky khaki renditions of police attire continued the theme, passing out cocktails. Guests wandered through the dazzling, fountain-splashed courtyard nibbling hors d’oeuvres and checking out the retailers and dining destinations, including star chef Nancy Silverton’s Mozza, and Puesto, the La Jolla street-taco joint that scored spacious new digs (and a Thomas Schoos makeover) in the former jailhouse.
Mariachi horns blared and legendary entertainers The Temptations took to the stage before the evening ended with a bang—literally. Fireworks lit up the night sky as guests made their way home. –Photography by Tim Hardy,
