| October 26, 2012 | Parties

The Party Hosted by restaurant and nightclub impresario James Brennan, Rachel’s Brunch at the La Jolla estate of Joan Waitt benefited Rachel’s House, a nonprofit run by San Diego’s Catholic Charities providing services to homeless women and children. The Scene Muddled beverages by Pick & Rocks Cocktails kept the hat-donning crowd cool as they packed the lawn to peruse a silent auction before an elegant seated Sunday brunch. Grand cru Gruy√®re quiche and cider-brined salmon were among the gourmet offerings prepared by Campine chefs. They and servers graciously donated their time for the cause. The Performance The afternoon ended on a high note as Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jewel took to the stage, opening with an a cappella rendition of “Over the Rainbow.” The songbird, who was once homeless on the streets of San Diego, also performed her hits “You Were Meant for Me” and “Foolish Games".The Highlight With some of the city’s top VIPs on the scene, Rachel’s Brunch raised more than $561,000, including $39,000 donated by Brennan himself.
