As a USD student, Kristi Brooks fell in love with the fashion industry during a semester abroad in Florence. “Coming from a place where puka shells and flip-flops were the norm,” she says, “I was mesmerized by the way Italians dressed… I mean, really dressed.” She went on to attend fashion school in L.A.—all while working in the wardrobe departments of Entertainment Tonight and The Insider—and eventually wound up dressing celebs like Sharon Stone and Michael Peña for the red carpet, TV and movies. Today, the Escondido resident is not only one of the area’s top fashion stylists, but she also produces fashion shows for top charities like Voices for Children and Feeding San Diego. Here, she dishes about her favorite spots to hang and shop around town.
