As a USD student, Kristi Brooks fell in love with the fashion industry during a semester abroad in Florence. “Coming from a place where puka shells and flip-flops were the norm,” she says, “I was mesmerized by the way Italians dressed… I mean, really dressed.” She went on to attend fashion school in L.A.—all while working in the wardrobe departments of Entertainment Tonight and The Insider—and eventually wound up dressing celebs like Sharon Stone and Michael Peña for the red carpet, TV and movies. Today, the Escondido resident is not only one of the area’s top fashion stylists, but she also produces fashion shows for top charities like Voices for Children and Feeding San Diego. Here, she dishes about her favorite spots to hang and shop around town.
“Van de Vort One Paseo has the best mix of trends, and pieces I will keep in my closet forever. Every time I pop in, I leave with a great find that immediately goes into heavy rotation.” 3665 Caminito Court, Ste. 760
“On the weekends, we like to head outdoors with our kids. Blue Sky Ecological Reserve is one of my favorite places to hike. The trail is not overly intimidating and there are some incredible views.”16275 Espola Road, Poway
ALL ABOUT THE FRILLS
“I’m a big believer in investing in beautiful jewelry. Adding the right pieces to a plain old T-shirt and jeans instantly elevates your look. The pieces at Kasia Jewelry are so beautiful and unique.” 312 S. Cedros Ave., Ste. 140, Solana Beach
“On busy days, it’s hard to stop for a proper meal, so my go-to is Pressed Juicery UTC. I’m obsessed with the Yuzu Jalapeno juice—a perfect amount of kick to keep you going.” 4545 La Jolla Village Drive, Ste. E-12
“I’m on my feet constantly for work, so the right shoes are a must! I’m also getting to an age when comfort is in close competition with style. I love the one-of-a-kind lines and styles carried by Sedera.” 1923 Calle Barcelona, Carlsbad
