“Betty Designs was born out of my passion for endurance sports, design, fashion and surf culture, and a desire to fill a void in the women’s sports market,” says North County designer Kristin Mayer, who got her start with ’80s favorite L.A. Gear. “The women I know are strong and beautiful, and I wanted to put that essence in my line using bold, playful patterns and graphics.” An avid outdoors enthusiast—from 100-mile bike rides to hanging ten at Cardiff State Beach—Mayer has created a feminine yet edgy brand that boasts sportswear for everything from cycling to triathlons to stand-up paddleboarding. Most recently, she’s turning heads with a colorful cycling kit designed in collaboration with local brand Graced by Grit. Here, Mayer sounds off on her summer shopping list.
