The Party
International artist Miya Ando’s second solo show at the La Jolla gallery was aptly called Evenings. On this night, her ethereal work, made out of specially treated metal, cast a dreamy hue over the crowd.
The People
Gallery owner Lorna York along with her daughter and protege, Madison, know how to lure a crowd. The ladies (who graced the pages of Riviera’s inaugural “Women of Style” feature) did not disappoint, with art collectors Pam and Greg Marks in the house, along with Aretfill founder Dr. Stefan Lemperle and realty royalty Peter and Judy Corrente.
Best in Show
Ando, who is half Japanese and half Russian, comes from a long line of artists, including Bizen sword-makers. With public commissions from London to South Korea, she is one of several top artists represented by the stunning 10,000-square-foot gallery on Prospect Street. The coterie also includes Hunt Slonem, the wildly popular street artist RETNA and sculptor Matt Devine. And don’t miss this spring’s show with Canadian sculptor Shayne Dark, whose bold and colorful works are anything but. –Photography by Tim Hardy, shotbyhardy.com
