THE PARTY It was a star-studded weekend throughout San Diego during the 14th annual San Diego Film Festival. First stop: the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla, which set a stellar stage for Variety’s Night of the Stars Tribute. Downtown, the Reading Cinemas screened Hollywood’s most innovative masterpieces including Scott Eastwood’s best feature winner, Diablo. THE GUESTS The big names up in lights included Cinema Vanguard Award recipient Adrien Brody and Auteur Award winner Brit Marling. The one to watch? Rising star awardee John Boyega—the Brit babe who plays the renegade storm trooper in the ballyhooed Star Wars: The Force Awakens. THE HIGHLIGHTS Also on the rise: awareness. Academy Award winner Geena Davis (Reframed Humanitarian Award) and fellow do-gooder Jack Henry Robbins (Chris Brinker Award) were recognized for their empowering work focused on fighting social injustices. The up-and-coming director is undoubtedly making Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, his actor/activist parents, proud. That’s a wrap. –Photography By José Islas and Tim Hardy, shotbyhardy.com
