The Party
Recently named America’s Best High-Volume Cocktail Bar at the annual Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, Polite Provisions rolled out the welcome mat for fellow libation luminary David Kaplan. A fan of artisanal cocktails? You’ve got Kaplan to thank. And a crowd of in-the-know aficionados gathered to toast the famed mixologist’s first book, Death & Co.: Modern Classic Cocktails, which tells the story of his seminal New York City watering hole, Death & Co., considered the birthplace of next-gen bar culture.
The People
Current Death & Co. barkeeps Jillian Vose and Brad Farran shook things up behind the bar, slinging potent potables selected from the 500 on offer in Kaplan’s elegant new tome. Meanwhile, in addition to helping Kaplan work the room, Arsalun Tafazoli—Polite Provision’s notoriously anti-vodka owner—kept tabs on the spirit world. No worries: The drinks on offer were all scotch- or gin-based.

Before leaving with signed copies of Death & Co., guests noshed on epicurean sliders from Soda & Swine and capped the night with glasses raised in Kaplan’s honor. Cheers! –Photography by Stacy Keck
