Naeem Dropper

| July 10, 2014 | Parties

The Party
Three words: “Slinky. Sexy. Classic.” That’s how designer Naeem Khan summed up his Cabaret-inspired fall collection, which he showed on the catwalk during the annual Globe Guilders luncheon, Celebrating Couture. “I took the sex from Cabaret, but made it elegant,” says Khan, marking his sixth time headlining one of S.D.’s most anticipated fashion events of the year.

The People
The omnipresent Brit designer, Zandra Rhodes, worked the crowd at the Hilton Bayfront downtown, as did Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and his wife, Hilit. In attendance for the first time, Naeem’s wife, New York jewelry designer Ranjana Khan, donned her husband’s looks at both the fashion show and the patron party held at Iris and Matthew Strauss’ Casa del Arte.

Best in Show
Neiman Marcus invited guests backstage for its traditional Couture Up Close, where ladies ordered Khan creations for the fall gala season. The event raised more than $100,000 for Globe programming and awareness, exceeding last year’s goal. One of the afternoon’s biggest highlights was saved for last, with Khan’s new bridal line closing the show, to a standing ovation of “I do’s.” –Photography by Tim Hardy
