San Diegans gathered for the sixth annual Padres Pedal the Cause, an inspiring one-day-only charity event focused on raising funds for cancer research in San Diego.
The Party Nearly 10 years ago, the Koman family launched Pedal the Cause in St. Louis, a charity event to raise funds for cancer research; it has now developed into multicitywide effort. Known locally as Padres Pedal the Cause, this year’s event, held at Petco Park, was packed full of activities starting at the crack of dawn. From a 5K to spin classes to four cycling courses over Coronado Bridge, it was a high-energy and hopeful atmosphere. The Guests Special guest Mayor Kevin Faulconer showed his support by participating in the 55-mile Olympic Challenge ride. The Highlights With a whopping 2,513 participants, the Koman family hoped to raise $3 million (an increase from the $2.4 million raised last year)—100 percent of which will be donated for cancer research in San Diego. Local food and beverage hot spots Social Tap Eatery, Amplified Ale Works and Pizza Port—to name a few—were waiting at the finish line to show their support. It was a great day to help kick cancer’s butt. -Claire Harper
