What happened before the Big Bang? British rock-star physicist and professor Brian Cox offered his take on this and other age-old ponderings as part of his Universal: Adventures in Space & Time show on May 23 at Balboa Theatre. Attendees can expect to be mesmerized by Cox’s mind-blowing insight into astronomy and cosmology, with some biology thrown in for good measure, and all delivered in his signature spellbinding style. Among the highlights: “There are huge LED screens, and I show some of the most spectacular images of the universe taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and the Cassini mission to Saturn,” says Cox. “I also have some spectacular graphics sequences created with DNEG—the company that did the graphics for the movie Interstellar. In particular, we journey into orbit around a black hole and explore how space and time are affected in the vicinity of such an exotic object.” Tickets from $54
