Las Patronas hosted its 70th annual Jewel Ball at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in ornate elegance.

THE PARTY Paging the Far East! The stunning La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club was brilliantly adorned to embody James Hilton’s classic 1933 novel Lost Horizon for the 70th annual Jewel Ball’s Shangri-La theme. More than 800 guests hailed to the utopian wonderland to help raise funds for over 19 worthy Las Patronas benefactors, including Birch Aquarium, GenerateHope Inc., The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation and Sharp HealthCare Foundation.

THE SCENE
President Lisa Betyar, Jewel Ball chair Kathryn Gayner and the ladies of Las Patronas outdid themselves with true Shangri-La flair. From the menu of artisan sushi to the impressive red bridge spanning the lotus-topped pool, the affair emulated Asian tea garden perfection.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
In addition to the extraordinary decor—including the party’s own red pagoda—patrons were lead to the feast by Chinese dancing lions and a 20-foot dragon that snaked its way through the crowd and over the bridge. Dinner is served! –Kalah Siegel; photos by J.Dixx Photography
