Reigning Men!

THE PARTY The lavish soiree was held throughout The Bridges Rancho Santa Fe. THE SCENE Guests wandered through the clubhouse where The Macallan whiskey tasting bar was set up next to Sony’s ultra HDTV. (Talk about high def!) Meanwhile, what would a party be without the cocktail kings of Snake Oil, who provided the designer beverages? Outside, on the twinkly patio, S.D.’s very own cigar company, Payne-Mason, was hand-rolling cigars. THE PLAYERS Several of the men featured in the issue were at the party, including acclaimed Baja chef Miguel Ángel Guerrero, surf agent Blair Marlin, man about town and library kingpin Spencer C. Evans, neuroscientist Jacopo Annese and Scripps’ rugged researcher Kristian Anders Gustavon. Other reigning men included L.A. fashion photographer Bode Helm, who shot the spread; Zach Barnhorst, founder of new cool-kid La Jolla company ZB Savoy bow ties; Jason Waters of men’s custom clothier Astor & Black; and Andy White of the updated classic that is the Ascot Shop. BEST IN SHOW Ted Baker London, from Fashion Valley, provided the debonair models, who were staged in handsome vignettes courtesy of Found Vintage Rentals. The summer look, gentlemen? Windowpane checks, pastels and natural linen for the country club, and bow ties paired with slim-cut suits for the evening. And don’t forget the white suit. Everyone needs to rock one this summer. THE DRIVE Hoehn Motors of Carlsbad staged the ultimate arrival with a lineup of the newest rides from Land Rover, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes. Guests were able to test-drive the cars throughout the Bridges’ picturesque property—adhering, of course, to its strict 25 mph speed limit. THE HIGHLIGHTS Talk about gourmet. Delectable fare was spread throughout the clubhouse with an over-the-top raw bar set up conveniently near the Stella Artois station (there’s just something about crab legs and a cold beer). Elsewhere, Sushi in the Ranch set up a mega bar, and carnivores got their fix at a street taco station. Overall, it was a yummy night. Photography by Arlene Ibarra
