The Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad hosted a glittering gala for the U.S. debut of Dreams of Diamonds, the largest book ever published about these sought-after gems. Fine jewelry and superb diamonds from seven of the world’s most prominent diamantaires that are featured in the page-turner were on view: Adler, Chatila, Chow Tai Fook, Diacore, Diarough, Mouawad and MUNNU The Gem Palace.

Noted jewelry photographers Alastair Laidlaw and Christine Marsden; jewelry designers Pascal Mouawad and Katey Brunini; GIA President and CEO Susan Jacques

Guests swooned over the displays, which included 25 diamond pieces ranging from a pair of boots set with 1,527 carats of diamonds (not meant for walking!) to a 50.05-carat D color, flawless diamond briolette. Our lust-have: the sautoir worn by Nicole Kidman at the 2008 Oscars, which contains a total of 7,645 diamonds. In addition to the baubles, guests pored over the heavy-duty book, which weighs more than 30 pounds and took six years to complete. Next up? Don’t miss the sparkling exhibit Variations on a Theme, featuring a selection of nearly 200 works of jewelry and objets d’art created by 40 members of the American Jewelry Design Council. -Photos by J DIXX
