What to do with underutilized rooftop space on the waterfront? Manchester Grand Hyatt has found a good solution with Rooftop Cinema Club, the movie operator that started on a rooftop in London’s Shoreditch a few years ago and has just opened in San Diego. You’ll want to reserve your deck chair (or loveseat) for June’s lineup, which celebrates some of the city’s nest cameos in film. Look for the intersection of West Laurel and Union streets in Top Gun, where Charlie declares her feelings for Maverick, and fall in love with the city all over again! Almost Famous, also in June, stars Ocean Beach and Balboa Park (oh, and Kate Hudson). Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo celebrates its 60th anniversary on the roof (shiver), and Grease rings in 40 years during the month’s lineup. We’re predicting that the adults-only movie experience, with its HD projectors, studio-quality wireless headphones, cozy blankets, and terrific food and cocktails (try the cinema club’s signature Almost Famous cocktail), will be the summer’s most convivial new hangout. Tickets from $17, 1 Market Place, San Diego
