As the founder of Solana Beach’s Madison Gallery, Lorna York has been collecting art for 40 years and counting. “I first began collecting when traveling, as different cultures have always inspired me,” says York. “The mission of my gallery is to bring global contemporary art from artists all over the world to Southern California.” York will do just that when she reveals Angel of History, a new exhibit featuring the works of Bosnian artist Radenko Milak on display at Madison Gallery from Nov. 4 to Jan. 4. “Working with living contemporary artists and providing them a platform to exhibit their work has made me a huge philanthropist in the contemporary art world,” says York, whose gallery will be the first to showcase Milak’s art in the United States. In 2022, principal designer and owner Tracy Lynn toasted the 20th anniversary of her beloved interior design firm, Tracy Lynn Studio. Based in San Diego, the studio has become known for its homes that marry function and style, all under the leadership and guidance of its eponymous owner. “I’m constantly in awe of my amazing team and all the craftsman and tradespeople I’ve worked with over the years and have come to consider my family,” says Lynn, who began her business by designing her own home before a friend tapped her to create hers as well. “Sharing my experiences and industry knowledge with the next generation of designers is something I feel really strongly about.” Here, Lynn reveals her go-to guide for gifting this season.

From working as a junior designer for Carole Cillino Interiors in Westerly, Rhode Island, to managing leases for Oakwood Apartments in Pacific Beach, Michelle Harrison-McAllister’s background includes a wide range of experiences in the design and real estate worlds. These days, she’s best known as the principal designer and creative lead behind San Diego’s Michelle Harrison Design (MHD). “Currently at MHD, we’re busy working on Ocean 17 in Carlsbad as the interior design firm,” says Harrison-McAllister, an ACE Mentor (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) and San Diego Architecture Foundation board member. “I’ve run a profitable design firm in San Diego since 1999, grown solely on referral. I am very proud of the work we have done at MHD and the relationships I have built with some incredibly talented people in the industry and throughout our city.” Next, Harrison-McAllister will head to Disney World with her grandkids to make the holiday season merry and bright.
