Explore cocktails and beautiful dishes at Sea & Sky. PHOTO COURTESY HOTEL LA JOLLA, CURIO COLLECTION BY HILTON
Zip up the elevator to the 11th floor at Hotel La Jolla to discover Sea & Sky, a beautiful new sea-to-table restaurant designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Sea & Sky kicks the day off with apple pancakes, baked eggs with chorizo and a signature brunch burger followed by tuna smash burger sliders, shrimp ravioli and a chopped salad for lunch. When night falls, dive into mussels swimming in garlic and cilantro butter broth, wild king salmon bathed in smoked mushrooms and green garlic, and a bone-in New York strip steak. A churro ice cream sandwich and chocolate tart end things on a sweet note.

Blue Ocean Sushi & Grill is now open at Westfield UTC, joining its sister locations in Carlsbad and La Jolla. Sushi lovers will discover Blue Ocean’s signature rolls alongside new menu items that are exclusive to its third outpost. Those offerings include the Tartare Harmony (toro and yellowtail tartare served with yuzu sour cream, black tobiko, fresh wasabi, ponzu and deep-fried wonton chips) and the chef’s choice omakase box. Chef James Pyo is also providing new recipes from the grill, highlighted by ribeye teriyaki, miso-glazed Chilean sea bass and spicy chicken stir fry.

Pull up a seat in front of the theater-style kitchen at Marugame Udon at Westfield UTC, where the popular noodle shop is serving handcrafted Sanuki-style udon noodles and crispy tempura. Drawing upon the artistry of noodle making in the Kagawe Prefecture in southern Japan, the restaurant immerses guests in centuries-old flavors in bowls brimming with dashi and Japanese curry sauce. Don’t miss its equally delicious Katsu sandos, sandwiches made with lightly toasted Japanese milk bread.

Satiate hunger in Hillcrest, where the minds behind Pali Wine Co. have opened their first full-service restaurant. Led by chef Logan Kendall, Cellar Hand celebrates San Diego’s local farmers and fishmongers with a menu inspired by California’s bounty. House-fermented and wood-fired pita is served alongside house labneh made with rainbow trout caviar, while entrees shine thanks to grilled whole rockfish, flompson Heritage Berkshire pork and artichoke ravioli. Indulge in the dining room or on the patio, designed by San Diego’s Tecscape Design.
