A look inside Oceanside's 101 Proof

Spring is in the air, bringing with it a desire for novelty and adventure. If you’re up for a bit of spirited exploration, head to Oceanside and visit 101 Proof (760.429.7424), an intimate speak-easy tucked inside Urge Gastropub and Whiskey Bank. Warm with brown, tufted leather seating and vintage accents, 101 Proof boasts a variety of handcrafted cocktails along with an extensive whiskey list. Made with the bar’s single-barrel Woodford Reserve, whiskey barrel-aged bitters, black walnut bitters and molasses bitters, the Tommy’s Trombone is just one of 10 Old-Fashioneds offered on the impressive cocktail menu. Over in Little Italy, Pali Wine Co.’s newest tasting room (619.569.1300) is a chic spot for oenophiles. Popular selections include a diverse mix of Pali Wine Co. and Tower 15 Winery premium varietals that can be sipped and swirled in a tasting flight experience on the outpost’s rooftop patio. Finally, if you’re looking to stay in for the evening, San Diego-based Crafthounds will deliver a stash of craft brews, with rare finds like Firestone Walker’s Stickee Monkee, straight to your doorstep within one hour. With nearly 4,000 beers on order via the company’s website, the likelihood of going thirsty is slim to none.
