When Philip Lizarraga assembled TeamG7 in 2010, he brought decades of expertise in landscape architecture to the table. With a career that began in Hawaii in 1969, Lizarraga tapped a best-in-class team to create San Diego’s premier landscape design-build company with Gary Phillips as president & CEO, Dave Heiliger as VP and director of finance and operations, and Mick Bostwick as director of legal, along with their team of artisans. Together as TeamG7, they provide creative landscape design solutions to a discerning clientele across San Diego’s North County, from Rancho Santa Fe to Santa Luz, Carmel Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside and beyond. Their installation protocol is one of detailed workmanship with a unique client-driven approach.
“I discovered a love and passion for the beauty and creativity of landscape architecture at an early age while visiting the Hawaiian Islands,” says Lizarraga. “By working with some of the best in the industry, I’ve honed my craft and found great joy in this industry.” With a focus on high-end residential homes, TeamG7 operates with an ethos of service without compromise to create stunning outdoor spaces that seamlessly blend function and beauty. Their landscape architecture services range from the innovative design and installation of pools and spas, water features, outdoor kitchens, fire features and overhead patio structures designed with various hardscapes and softscapes.
One of the qualities that sets TeamG7 apart from the rest is their relational and collaborative approach to working with clients, which drives the entire process, from design to build, completion and beyond. “This business has never been just a job,” says Phillips. “It’s not only about creating beautiful landscapes, but also about the people we serve and what they value in life. We translate that into their landscape. We use our creative strengths and abilities to produce the finest landscape design that fits our clients’ personalities and character.”
TeamG7’s recent projects include creating a Hawaiian resort-inspired oasis in the backyard of a coastal North County home with a contemporary clean line flair, which included a swimming pool with a 45-foot swim lane, an eight-foot deep dive area and a shallow Baja shelf where adults can lounge and children can play. They also built a Bali-like cabana in Ipe hardwood with an outdoor kitchen and barbecue, a recessed TV and adjustable LED lights integrated into the landscaping of lush palms and fragrant specimen plumeria. The before and after photos are stunning.
For a newly built contemporary home in San Diego, TeamG7 was tasked with creating an outdoor landscape and swimming pool that complemented the home’s minimalist architecture. They anchored the space with oversized gray and tan porcelain pavers in an offset pattern and created a custom aluminum overhead patio structure and an outdoor kitchen featuring a stainless steel barbecue. They also designed a poured-in-place black cement fire pit and a sauna alongside an existing specimen oak tree, all highlighted by LED lighting.
“Fueled by my love of people, I’ve been fortunate to establish and grow a flourishing landscape design and build company with TeamG7,” says Lizarraga. “Fifty years later, my passion for what I do has not diminished, but only increased. That passion has everything to do with my faith in Jesus Christ.”
