The Art Hop

| April 9, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY Partygoers busted out their blue jeans, poodle skirts and Chuck Taylors for a night of retro Americana at the San Diego Museum of Art’s first Culture & Cocktails of the year, inspired by the Behold, America! exhibit. THE SCENE More than 1,500 people turned out for the arty party, where spiked root beer floats (made with ginger beer, root beer vodka and vanilla ice cream) flowed. Hot dogs and hamburgers were sold on the front steps near a 1960s Corvette, and classic films like Rebel Without a Cause were projected onto the museum wall for a drive-in feel. THE HIGHLIGHTS The kids at heart flocked to vintage arcade games like PAC-MAN, Asteroids, Centipede, Donkey Kong and Galaga. Rolling up to the museum were the Warby Parker bus and the Sterling Mobile Spa, which offered blowouts and straight razor shaves. Save the date for the next event, an Italian-themed party inspired by the upcoming exhibition Piranesi, Rome, and the Arts of Design, on May 30. Photography by Bauman Photographers
