The Old Globe's Evening of Illusions Gala

| November 6, 2017 | Parties

THE PARTY It was only fitting that The Old Globe’s anticipated Evening of Illusions Gala took place under the stars in the open-air Copley Plaza as the evening was full of sparkling moments—from chair Sheryl White’s shimmering ensemble to glittering fireworks gracing the night’s sky. THE SCENE San Diego’s art aficionados, including fellow chairs Karen Cohn, Nina Doede and honorary chair Audrey S. Geisel, were enchanted by twirling aerialists, fine fare from the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, and tunes by the energetic Cowling Band. But it was the one-night-only cabaret performance from Tony Award-winning star Jane Krakowski (of 30 Rock, Ally McBeal and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fame) that truly had the who’s who of the city, including Mayor Kevin Faulconer and wife Katherine, on their feet. There was even a surprise appearance by fellow Tony favorite and current Benny & Joon star Bryce Pinkham. THE HIGHLIGHTS More than 400 well-dressed ladies and gents showed up in support of the theater’s artistic and art engagement programs. So much so, that they tallied approximately $1 million for one of S.D.’s most beloved cultural institutions. -Allison Mitchell
