The San Diego Public Library Foundation’s third annual Celebration Under the Dome gala was a spirited soiree in the stacks.

The S.D. Public Library Foundation’s annual Celebration Under the Dome soiree was literally one for the books. Five hundred altruists joined together to raise an impressive $600,000 in support of the library’s programming and technology.

The Central Library’s three floors were transformed into book-themed vignettes, embellished by sweeping views of the S.D. skyline and entertainment galore, with acts from Super Diamond and B-Side Players. The city’s philanthropic elite came out in droves, including Claudia and Jim Prescott, and Katie and Dan Sullivan.

Guests were treated to heartwarming stories from library patrons such as Genevieve Redondo, who dropped out of high school as a teen but was able to earn her diploma thanks to the Library’s Career Online High School. National University President David Andrews tugged on heartstrings further when he offered Redondo a full scholarship to his institution. Andrews said it best: “A shared passion for lifelong learning makes our communities even stronger.” ‒Kalah Siegel
