THE PARTY No passport needed for this boarder crossing! The annual Spirit of Baja Dinner aptly showcases trends and twists on classic Mexican eats, accompanied by the country’s notoriously sought-after libations. And who better to helm the kitchen this year than the face of Baja’s booming foodie scene? Chef Javier Plascencia—known locally for gracing San Diego with his state-side staple, Bracero—joined the Westgate Hotel’s Exec Chef Fabrice Hardel to serve five courses of Baja California’s culinary genius. THE SCENE The Westgate set the stage (complete with live Latin guitar tunes) for the exclusive south-of-the-border soiree that welcomed VIPs including Tru Miller—queen bee of the Valle de Guadalupe wine culture and owner of Adobe Guadalupe. THE HIGHLIGHTS Not surprisingly, the meal itself was the star of this show. Fare included duck confit buñuelo and impeccably seasoned Baja hiramasa that became the buzz of the ballroom. As for vino, vintners from four of the region’s top wineries, including Monte Xanic and Paoloni Wines, shared impeccable selections. Olé! –Photography by J Dixx
