The Party Hits from La Jolla Playhouse’s latest alt rock, electronic production, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, stirred the crowd gathered at the Jacobs family’s Balinese-style beach house for the final Spotlight Dinner series of the season, hosted by Riviera.The Scene The sun set as the intimate crowd of 62 guests sat down to a four-course, Asian-influenced meal prepared by Campine and flanked by Botanica florals. Dinner conversation turned to the musical’s special effects and 17-foot-tall robots, as well as LJ Playhouse’s just-announced 2013 productions, including the Bill Condon-directed (of The Twilight Saga fame) reimagining of the hit Broadway musical Side Show, written by the creators of Dreamgirls.The Highlights The trio of leading cast members performed a three-song set before dinner, including the title song written by The Flaming Lips, whose 10th album, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, inspired the musical.
