THE PARTY Talk about a welcoming committee. Guests at the annual Rendezvous in the Zoo gala were greeted by the evening’s “performers” swinging from trees—and we’re not talking acrobats. And the fun was only beginning: The zoo’s stars, from monkeys to kangaroos, made cameo appearances throughout the evening. With Wayne Foster Entertainment providing the music, guests took the Party Animals theme to heart and danced the night away. THE GUESTS Co-chairs Vicki and Chris Eddy put on a lavish affair for guests including Conrad Prebys, the omnipresent San Diego philanthropist and sponsor of the Africa Rocks area of the zoo. THE HIGHLIGHTS Vibrant murals by artist Christina Walker showed penguins, elephants and giraffes wearing feathered masks and top hats, embodying the party animal spirit. And they certainly have reason to celebrate: The event reached a new financial high with $2 million raised for Penguin Beach, a seashore home for the night’s most elite honorees, donning the original penguin suit. –Photography by Carol Sonstein
