THE PARTY The Grand Del Mar debuted a lavish spread for the screening of Somm, part of its summer movie series. THE SCENE The documentary is a humorous, emotional and illuminating trip into the high-end, mysterious world of the Court of Master Sommeliers. Filmmaker Jason Wise and Meyer Gottlieb, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films, were among the guests. Bonus: Prior to the screening, there was a Q&A with Wise and a special appearance by Master Sommelier Chris Miller of Spago Beverly Hills. The Grand’s new somm, Elizabeth Huettinger, earned her chops under Miller in L.A. THE HIGHLIGHTS Addison chef William Bradley is a master of risotto, and on this day he doled out a dreamy porcini mushroom version that paired well with just about any of the dozen wines served. Huettinger is always on the hunt for gems and her ever-changing wine list is a globe-trotting journey. Faves include Domaine Rollin white Burgundy, New Zealand pinot noir, cinsault from South Africa and sherry from Valdespino. “Quite possibly, it is the finest sherry house in existence,” she says. “It will change your preconceptions.” Photography by J.Dixx
