Founded in 1949 and shuttered in 2013, La Valencia Hotel’s Whaling Bar is set to reopen in early 2024, a glittering return to its glory days as a nautical-themed cocktail lounge. Once a playground for the stars—including Dr. Seuss!—the watering hole has been reimagined by the Schoos Design, SDCM Restaurant Group and La Valencia teams as a haven of glamour and nostalgia. While the menu has yet to be revealed, we can envision sipping Champagne or an elegant cocktail at the stunning marble-slab bar, taking in original art by Wing Howard from the 1940s that once hung in the same space. “This reopening symbolizes our commitment to preserving the legacy of La Valencia and creating new, unforgettable experiences for our guests,” shares Summer Shoemaker, the hotel’s general manager. “We look forward to sharing the magic that made the original Whaling Bar iconic while ushering in a new era of timeless elegance and legendary hospitality that defines La Valencia.”
