Mustard Season may be an aesthetic dream, but it also is of practical use. Mustard plants serve as a protective cover and work to suppress winter seeds, prevent erosion and recharge the soil with nitrogen. What’s more, mustard seeds can be ground up and puréed with white wine, vinegar and salt to make the condiment we all know and love. Taking advantage of this, Stanly Ranch will host a mustard season multi-course dinner that reimagines mustard on March 26 as part of the Stanly Ranch Grange Dinner Series. Reserve
In early February, the California Department of Parks and Recreation affirmed spectacular wildflower blooms are expected this spring. That means blankets of California poppies, sand verbena, desert sunflowers and lilies, evening primrose and more could be on the horizon. Hunting down the magnificent super blooms is worth the trek, but just be sure to be respectful of the land. The California State Parks recommends staying on designated trails, treading lightly, not trampling flowers, leaving drones at home, keeping dogs on a leash and leaving the place better than when you found it.

If you saw the incredible Super Bloom of 2019 on Instagram, good chance it was here. The golden poppies aren’t expected to be as impressive as then (it covered 1,600 acres), but poppies are already starting to bloom. However, the canyon is closed out of precaution, so you’ll have to settle for a drive by with poppies in the distance.
