As famous for her striking hand-drawn prints as she is for her bubblegum-hued hair, iconic designer and Del Mar resident Dame Zandra Rhodes is celebrating five decades in the fashion industry with a coffee-table book, Zandra Rhodes: 50 Fabulous Years in Fashion ($40, Yale University Press). The richly illustrated keepsake retrospective spans Rhodes’ glittering career from new wave designer—who counted Diana Vreeland as a mentor, dressed everyone from Diana, Princess of Wales and Jackie Onassis to Freddie Mercury and founded the Fashion and Textile Museum in London—to becoming one of the leading names in British and international fashion. Alongside a foreword by International Vogue Editor Suzy Menkes, contributions and essays from friends and fellow luminaries, including Iris Apfel, Anna Sui and Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, also feature. Catch Rhodes in person at Warwick’s (Oct. 14) for a special book signing event in the run-up to her fashion show at The Westgate Hotel (Nov. 7) featuring her latest collections.
